So, I know it's a bit early to start writing about this but I just thought I'd leave a little teaser.

I am returning again with my wonderful boss Maria, to the Art & Soul Retreat in Hampton, Virginia.

It is going to be so nice to be around the wonderful people that populated this retreat last year.

We the store, Collage, are the official retailer for the entire retreat series. Which means we provide all kinds of supplies, ephemera, gifts, embellishments, etcetera for all of the attendees. I've worked in retail off and on for many years and I have to say these women are a clerks dream. Informed, sweet, helpful and thankful all rolled up into one.

I am on the hunt, the hunt I tell ya!

So, a great way to promote your work is to partner with another artist that can benefit from your skills.

I am looking for all Jewelers: Scrabble, Bamboo Tiles, Shrinky Dinks, Dominoes, Memory Jewelry, etc.

If you can benefit from free images to expand your jewelry collection and sell on Etsy or anywhere else for that matter than I am your man.

I provide the imagery of your choice for free and we advertise each other's product lines.

On the Search For New Images

I went out today looking for new books to scan. This is really a treasure hunt. One that I enjoy to no end. In Portland, I believe it to be one of the very few American cities that support local book businesses and we are lucky to have Powell's, the largest box bookstore in the USA. They have a great section called "Themes in Art" as well as their "Art Critique" sections. There are so many groovy books with images published by theme, artist, color, you name it.

One such wonderful book I found by browsing is:

"On Ugliness" by Umberto Eco - The same guy that wrote "The Name of the Rose" is also an art historian and medievalist that has compiled something akin to a "bible of grotesques". It explores the"ugliness" in art history although I would argue with that. What's behind the theme always resonates with me.

So, let's face it. My esthetic is quite dark, bordering on the macabre. Bordering? Well, it's actually fully jumped the fence at this point. There are many, many lovely artists producing work that is not necessarily disturbing but definitely orbits the dark side.

I will often be commenting and linking to some of my favorite artists who dabble in the "dark arts" :)

Sometimes they will be artists on Etsy, other times, artists who I will never be able to afford. :(

I am in that strange place a lot of people find themselves who sell their items online. I have been having a great time selling on Etsy, taking classes (Virtual Labs), reading incredible information provided by other knowledgeable Etsians. The problem is, I also have another website http://www.sinisterconcept.com that I've paid for and is just sitting their collecting virtual dust.

Truthfully, I believe you can never have too many points of contact in the virtual world. So I've made it my mission to get my other site going. It will only be a redirecting site in the beginning but will hopefully evolve into the Macabre Kingdom I visualize it becoming.

So, this is the "Plunge" as they say. Blogging, the final and most important frontier on the internet. This will be a forum to promote my own work on Etsy, the work of others that I appreciate, and muse candidly on the arts, craft and creative world as a whole.

Please check back, because I'm told that if you don't post exactly every 13 seconds your head will explode.
